How to Create and Fill PDFs with Lyrebird

Updated this week

Lyrebird makes it easy to turn your consult transcripts into professional PDF documents. You can use standard PDF forms provided by Lyrebird or create custom PDF templates tailored to your practice. This article covers both options.

Generate a PDF Using Standard Lyrebird Templates

Step 1: Complete your consult

  1. Log in to your Lyrebird Health account

  2. Navigate to the Consults section

  3. Complete your consult as normal

Step 2: Review and Edit the Transcript (Recommended)

Before generating a PDF, review your transcript for accuracy.
While Lyrebird’s AI is highly accurate, a quick check helps ensure:

  • Correct wording

  • Accurate speaker attribution

You can edit the transcript directly within Lyrebird.

Step 3: Open the Write Document Tool

Click the Write Document button in the top-right corner of the consult page.

Step 4: Select a Standard PDF Form

Choose a PDF form from the list of available templates.

Standard forms available include:

  • Asthma Action Plan

  • Centrelink Medical Certificate

  • Workers Compensation forms:

    • NSW

    • QLD

    • SA

    • TAS

    • NT / WA

Step 5: Review the Generated PDF

Lyrebird will populate the form using information from the consult.

Before finalising:

  • Review all filled fields

  • Make any necessary edits directly in the document

Step 6: Download Your PDF

  1. Click the Download button

  2. Choose where to save the file on your device

  3. Rename the file if needed (e.g. Patient Name – Centrelink Medical Certificate – Date)

Your PDF is now ready to use or share.

Create and Use Custom PDF Templates

If you use your own forms or practice-specific documents, Lyrebird allows you to create custom PDF templates.

Step 1: Navigate to PDF Templates

  1. Go to the Customise tab in Lyrebird

  2. Select PDF Templates from the left-hand menu

This is where all your templates are managed.

Step 2: Upload Your PDF

  • Click the + icon

  • Drag and drop your PDF, or select it from your device

Note:
Only fillable PDFs can be used to create a template.

Step 3: Review Detected Fields

  1. Click Next to begin template creation

  2. Lyrebird will automatically parse the PDF and detect all fillable fields

  3. Live updates will appear as the document is processed

Once complete:

  • All detected fields will appear on the left-hand side

  • Lyrebird assigns each field a name, description, and type

You should review each field carefully and make any edits needed.

Step 4: Save Your Template

Click Save & Exit in the top left corner once you are happy with the template.

Your custom PDF is now ready to use in consults.

Generate a PDF Using Your Custom Template

  1. Complete a consult and generate your notes as usual

  2. Click Write Document in the top-right corner of the consult

  3. Select your custom PDF template from the list

  4. Review the populated document and edit if required

  5. Click the Download button to save the PDF

FAQs

Can I generate a PDF from any Lyrebird transcript?

Yes. You can generate a PDF from any completed consult in your Lyrebird account.

Can I share PDFs directly from Lyrebird?

While you can't directly share the PDF from within Lyrebird via email or external platforms, you can easily download the PDF to your local device. Once downloaded, you have full control to share it securely via your preferred methods (e.g. secure internal network, encrypted email, or integrated EMR systems).

What happens if I edit a transcript after generating a PDF?

The PDF is a static snapshot of your transcript at the time of export. If you make any edits or updates to your transcript in Lyrebird after generating a PDF, you will need to regenerate the transcript to PDF to capture those changes. The previously generated PDF will not update automatically.

Is there a limit to how many PDFs I can generate on a Pro subscription?

You can generate as many PDFs as needed from your Lyrebird transcripts if you have a Pro subscription.
