Not sure what a feature does or where to find it? This dictionary covers every part of Lyrebird in alphabetical order, with a short description and a link to the full guide.
A
Actions
Refers to any use of the AI - this includes a consultation, a dictation, or document generation. So, if you’re currently only using dictation, each new dictation would count as one action.
AI Edit
A tool that lets you make targeted changes to a generated note using natural language instructions. Instead of editing manually, you describe the change you want (e.g. "make the plan more concise") and Lyrebird rewrites the relevant section.
Allow (microphone permission)
The browser or system permission that lets Lyrebird access your microphone. Lyrebird cannot transcribe without this. If you accidentally clicked "Block," see the microphone troubleshooting guide.
B
Bp Premier integration
Lyrebird's direct integration with Best Practice Software. Enables automatic insertion of patient details into Lyrebird pre-consult and one-click saving of notes, documents, and observations to the patient's file - no copy-pasting required.
BP Free
A free tier of the Lyrebird Bp Premier integration with specific feature limits. See the BP Free guide for details on what's included and how it differs from paid plans.
C
Chief Complaint (note type)
A default note template that structures the output around the patient's presenting complaint. Includes chief complaint, systems review, current medications, and planning sections.
Community Templates
A shared library of note and document templates created by Lyrebird users. You can browse, download, and contribute templates to share your documentation style with other clinicians.
Consent
Patient consent to audio recording of their consultation. Required before every consult. Lyrebird provides a printable consent form and a suggested verbal script.
Consult
Lyrebird's primary mode. Records and transcribes a live consultation, then generates clinical notes and documents in real time when you press Stop.
Cubiko integration
An integration with Cubiko analytics that supports automatic MBS item coding based on consultation content.
Customise
The section of Lyrebird where you configure your personal note templates, document layouts, macros, and word preferences. Changes made here apply to all future consults and dictations.
D
Dictate
Lyrebird's secondary mode. Rather than listening to a live consultation, Dictate lets you speak directly to Lyrebird and formats your words into notes or documents. Includes Direct Dictate and Smart Dictate.
Direct Dictate
A Dictate sub-mode that transcribes your words verbatim, with minimal punctuation adjustments only. Best used when you want an exact transcript of what you say.
Document Sorter
A feature within the Bp Premier integration that automatically sorts uploaded clinical documents into the correct patient file in Best Practice - no manual filing required.
F
FHIR
Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources - a standard for exchanging health information digitally. Lyrebird supports FHIR for enterprise and system integrations.
G
Generation error
An error that occurs when Lyrebird is unable to produce a note after a consult. Common causes include network interruption, session timeout, audio quality issues, or browser incompatibility.
Genie integration
Lyrebird's direct integration with Genie Solutions practice management software.
Gentu integration
Lyrebird's direct integration with Gentu practice management software.
H
History
The section of Lyrebird where all saved consults and dictations are stored. Notes are retained for the duration of your storage period setting (default: 7 days) and then permanently deleted.
I
Initial Consult
A consult type setting that instructs Lyrebird to capture a full history of the presenting issue. Use for new patients, new problems, or any consult where comprehensive history documentation is needed.
M
Macro
A keyboard shortcut that inserts a pre-written block of text into your notes. Useful for common phrases, standard examination findings, or recurring instructions. Configured in the Customise tab.
Multiple Complaints (note type)
A default note template that expands on the Chief Complaint format to include detailed documentation of secondary complaints alongside the primary presenting issue.
N
Notepad
A text input field visible during a live consult. Any text you type here is incorporated into the generated note. Use it to add information you don't want to say aloud in front of the patient.
Nookal integration
Lyrebird's integration with Nookal practice management software, primarily used by allied health practices.
O
Open API
A developer interface that allows external systems to integrate with Lyrebird programmatically. Documented for enterprise and technical users.
Organisation
A Lyrebird entity that groups multiple clinicians under one account, managed by an admin. Enables team billing, shared default settings, and user management.
P
Pause / Resume
Controls available during an active consult or dictation. Pause stops Lyrebird from listening; Resume restarts it. Useful for stepping out of the room or when a patient is undressing.
Pro Actions
Advanced customisation options available on paid plans. Allows deeper template logic and conditional formatting in note templates.
R
Replace Forever
A personalisation tool that teaches Lyrebird to always substitute one word or phrase with another across all future notes, for example, replacing "GP" with "general practitioner" or correcting a medication name Lyrebird consistently mishears.
Replace Once
The same substitution as Replace Forever, but applied only to the current note, not saved for future use.
Resume Consult
A button that becomes available after a note has been generated. Clicking it restarts recording so Lyrebird can capture additional information raised after the initial consult ended and incorporate it into the existing note.
Review Consult
A consult type setting that instructs Lyrebird to focus on changes since the last consultation rather than capturing a full history. Use for follow-up appointments for existing problems.
S
Settings
The configuration panel for your personal account and (for admins) your organisation. Includes profile settings, subscription management, note storage settings, and more.
Smart Dictate
A Dictate sub-mode that acts like a conversational scribe, you speak freely and Lyrebird formats your dictation into clean, structured prose without requiring specific phrasing.
SOAP (note type)
A default note template structured as Subjective, Objective, Assessment, and Plan. The most widely used clinical note format in general practice.
Stop
The button that ends a consult or dictation session and triggers note generation. Lyrebird generates the note in under four seconds after Stop is pressed.
T
Telehealth
A visit type option in Lyrebird. When selected, Lyrebird adjusts how it captures the consultation to account for a remote patient.
Templates
Structured formats that determine how Lyrebird organises the generated note. Includes default templates (SOAP, Chief Complaint, Multiple Complaints) and fully customisable personal and community templates.
Type Pool
A feature for organisations that use medical typists. Typists invited to the Type Pool can access and edit notes assigned to them without having full clinician access to Lyrebird.
U
Upcoming Patient List
A feature that lets you add patients to a queue before their appointments. Lyrebird can pre-populate patient details so you're ready to start recording the moment they walk in.
