How can I use this template to make documents in Lyrebird?
On the Consult page, complete your consultation as normal. When you click Stop Listening. Lyrebird will generate a summary of your consultation within seconds.
Review the consultation summary. Lyrebird will have identified all referrals required based on the discussion.
For example, for a patient with diabetes, you may see referrals flagged for:Diabetes educator
Dietician
Optometrist
Podiatrist
Click Write Document and use the search bar to find your referral letter types. Search for each specialty and select it under the Bp Referral Letter option.
For example:Search "podiatrist" → select Podiatrist under Bp Referral Letter
Search "dietician" → select Dietician under Bp Referral Letter
Search "diabetes educator" → select Diabetes Educator under Bp Referral Letter
Search "optometrist" → select Optometrist under Bp Referral Letter
Once all referral types are selected, click Create. Lyrebird will generate all four referral letters simultaneously - in just five clicks.
Review each generated letter. Each specialty will only contain information that is relevant to their profession.
For example, the podiatrist letter will reference the ingrown toenail review and diabetic foot assessment, not unrelated conditions. For each letter, select the addressee using either:
The Best Practice contact list (available via the Lyrebird integration), or
HealthShare
Search for and select the preferred specialist. Their contact details will populate automatically.
If there are relevant investigations to include (e.g., pathology results, imaging), you can attach these within the referral letter. They will be automatically included at the bottom of the letter.
Once you are satisfied with each letter, click Save to Bp. The letter will be saved to Correspondence Out in Best Practice.
From Correspondence Out, you can:Review the letter
Print and sign it
Email it directly to the specialist
Provide a copy to the patient
Edit it further as needed
There is no need to copy and paste content between systems. Complete your referral letters entirely within Lyrebird Health and send them directly from Correspondence Out in Best Practice - saving two to three minutes per referral letter.
How can I use automatic referral suggestions?
Lyrebird can automatically generate referral letter suggestions during your consultation. Rather than you having to manually search and create referral letters after your consultation ends, Lyrebird generates them in the background as the consultation progresses and referrals become apparent. Suggestion chips then appear on the right side of your screen, each named with the specialist type (for example, cardiologist, neurologist, or paediatrician).
These suggestion chips appear quietly without interrupting your note-taking. When more than three suggestions appear, they collapse into an expandable group, keeping your screen uncluttered whilst you work.
For each suggestion, you have the following options:
View - open and review the generated letter
Discard - remove a suggestion you don't need for this patient
Save to Bp - save the letter directly to Correspondence Out in Best Practice
If you prefer to create referral letters manually, you can turn off automatic suggestions at any time using the Stop suggesting toggle. This flips a user-level preference and reverts you to the existing manual right-hand card with the familiar Write Document workflow. Your preference is saved and will apply to all future consultations until you change it again.
Tips for best results:
Automatic suggestions work best when your consultation clearly indicates a referral need
Review each suggestion before saving to ensure it's appropriate for your patient
Suggestions persist during the consultation, so you can review them at your own pace
You can toggle automatic suggestions on or off at any time — your preference applies to all future consultations
Your letter edits are automatically saved to consult history
When you edit a referral letter during your consult, Lyrebird automatically saves your changes to the consult's history. This means when you reopen a consult from your history, all the edits you made to the referral letters will be there - even if you didn't manually save them again.
This automatic saving helps protect against accidentally losing important changes during documentation and means you can work with complete confidence that your edits are preserved.
💡 Tip: Your letter changes are preserved automatically, so you don't need to worry about manually saving edits to keep them safe.
