Can I use Lyrebird on my mobile device?

If you're on the move while consulting, Lyrebird is there to support you so you don't need to worry about documentation. This guide covers how to use Lyrebird on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device.

Lyrebird works on mobile devices - useful for home visits, ward rounds, telehealth from your phone, or any time you're away from your desk. This guide covers how to set up and get the best results on iOS and Android.

Supported devices

Lyrebird runs as a web app in your mobile browser - we currently do not have an app that can be downloaded, though we have this planned for the future!

Platform

Recommended browser

iPhone / iPad (iOS)

Google Chrome

Android

Google Chrome

The built-in microphone on most recent iPhones and Android devices performs well for standard consultations.

How can I use Lyrebird on my mobile or tablet?

  1. Open your browser (Google Chrome is preferred)

  2. Go to app.lyrebirdhealth.com and sign in

  3. When prompted to allow microphone access, tap Allow

  4. Use Lyrebird exactly as you would on desktop - Consult, Dictate, and your custom templates are all available

How do I transfer to my medical record via my phone?

The most convenient way is to click "save" after conducting a consult or dictate (ensuring you have entered a patient name).

You will now be able to access that note on your laptop or desktop (a device that has access to your medical record) by logging into the same account, heading to History, and clicking the Copy button. You can now paste into your medical record.

Tips for Best Results

  • Add Lyrebird to your home screen for faster access. In Safari, tap the Share icon → Add to Home Screen. In Chrome, tap the three-dot menu → Add to Home Screen.

  • Keep your phone on the table between you and the patient. Avoid keeping the phone in your pocket as this may muffle the audio and affect the transcript quality.

  • If you're in a noisy environment, consider using a Bluetooth or wired external microphone.

  • Do not lock your screen during a consult, this may cause the microphone to pause on some devices - we always recommend extending your phone's timeout period to prevent this happening automatically.

Troubleshooting on mobile

Why isn't it picking up my microphone input?

If the mobile browser version of Lyrebird isn't picking up your microphone, or if you've declined access by accident, you may need to check the site permissions on your browser.

iOS:

  1. Go to SettingsSafari (or your browser)

  2. Tap Microphone and set it to Allow

  3. Return to Lyrebird and refresh the page

Android:

  1. Go to SettingsAppsChrome

  2. Tap PermissionsMicrophoneAllow

  3. Return to Lyrebird and refresh the page

My phone screen locks automatically in the middle of a consult - how can I stop this?

Go to your device's Display settings and increase the auto-lock timeout to at least 5 minutes when using Lyrebird.

My audio cuts out mid-consult, even thought my screen was unlocked. Why?

This can happen if another app (e.g. a phone call) interrupts the microphone. Your consult will be saved up to the point of interruption - check your History to retrieve it. Here is a quick guide to help you retrieve a lost consult
