Saving Letters to Gentu

Save your completed Lyrebird letters directly to a patient's file in Gentu, using a letter template with the dictation.text variable.

You can save your Lyrebird letters directly to a patient's file in Gentu, with Lyrebird's generated content dropped straight into your own letterhead. This requires a one-time setup step in Gentu before your first save.

Before you start

Make sure you have:

  • The Gentu integration connected, with the same email registered against both Lyrebird and Gentu

  • Access to Settings in Gentu, to create or edit letter templates

If you have not connected Gentu yet, see Gentu & Lyrebird Health Integration before continuing.

Part 1: Create your letter template in Gentu

You only need to do this once per letter template. Once it is set up, it will be available in Lyrebird for every future letter.

Step 1: Open Letter Templates

In Gentu, go to Settings then Letter Templates.

Step 2: Create a new template

Create a new letter template, or open one of your existing templates if you already have your letterhead set up.

Step 3: Insert the Lyrebird variable

Click into the template where you want Lyrebird's generated content to appear.

With your cursor in place, go to References → Dictation → Voice Dictation. This inserts the dictation.text variable at that point in the template.

⚠️ Tip: The dictation.text variable is what tells Gentu where to place Lyrebird's generated letter content. Without it, the generated content will not appear in the right place, or at all.

Step 4: Name and save the template

Give your template a clear name, then click Save. This creates the new letter template in Gentu.

Part 2: Save a letter to Gentu

Once your template is set up, follow these steps each time you want to save a letter.

Step 5: Refresh your templates in Lyrebird

Back in Lyrebird Health, once you have generated your letter after completing a consult, click the refresh button that appears near the "Letterhead/Template" drop down so Lyrebird can pull in the template you just created.

Step 6: Select your letter template

Click the plus (+) sign and choose the template you just created.

Step 7: Save the letter to Gentu

Once your letter has been generated using the template, click Save to Gentu.

Step 8: Find your letter in Gentu

Head back into Gentu and go to the Patient's fileClinicalCorrespondence Out. Your letter will be saved there, with Lyrebird's generated content sitting in the section where you inserted the dictation.text variable.

Step 9: Edit the letter (optional)

You can edit the letter after it has been generated. Open it in Correspondence Out, make your changes, then click Save.

Something went wrong?

If your letter has saved but the generated content is missing or in the wrong place, check that the dictation.text variable was inserted correctly in Step 3.

If the letter has not appeared in Gentu at all, or the integration seems disconnected, see Gentu x Lyrebird FAQs for troubleshooting steps, including how to reset the integration.
