Can I upload documents to Lyrebird so it can be referenced in my notes?

Our Context Upload Feature allows you to attach a PDF such as a patient history, specialist report or previous consult notes, and Lyrebird will summarise it and use it as context when generating your consult note.

You can attach a document to a consult so Lyrebird has the patient's background before it writes your note. Lyrebird reads the document in the background while you consult, summarises it for you, and uses that context when it generates your consult note.

This feature is in beta. If you'd like to have it enabled on your account, please contact us on [email protected] or message us using the live chat button in the bottom right of the page when you are using Lyrebird.

What does this do?

Clinicians often have important context sitting in a document rather than in the conversation. That might be a patient history, a report from another health professional such as a psychologist or oncologist, a report from a school, or notes from a previous consult.

Instead of reading that document out loud or retyping the key points, you can attach it to your consult. Lyrebird scans the document, generates a summary you can read at a glance, and combines that information with what was discussed in the room to produce your note.

Note: Documents need to be in PDF format. Support for Word documents is coming soon.

How do I use the context upload feature?

  1. Save your document as a PDF

    1. Download or save a copy of the contextual document to your computer

    2. Make sure it is a PDF, as this is the only file type currently supported

  2. Start your consult

    1. Open Lyrebird and go to Consult

    2. Click Start Listening to begin the consult as you normally would

  3. Attach the document

    1. With your notepad open, look for the Attach button at the bottom of the page - this is indicated by the paper clip icon.

    2. Click Attach and select your PDF - You can attach up to 20 pages.

  4. Keep consulting while Lyrebird reads the document

    1. Lyrebird scans and reads the document in the background, so you can carry on with the consult

    2. A green tick appears once the document has finished processing

  5. Review the document summary

    1. Open the Document Summary tab to read Lyrebird's summary of the document

    2. Use this as a quick way to get across the patient's background without reading the full report

  6. Finish the consult

    1. Click Stop Listening as normal

    2. Lyrebird generates your consult note using both the attached document and anything discussed during the consult

    3. Clinical detail from the document can appear in your note even if it was never spoken about in the room

Tips for Best Results

  • Attach the document early in the consult so it has finished processing by the time you stop listening. You can enable "Show notepad pre-consult" in your Preferences to upload any documents prior to getting started.

  • Wait for the green tick before you click Stop Listening, as this confirms Lyrebird has read the document

  • Use PDFs that contain selectable text where possible, as a scanned image of a page is harder to read accurately

  • Attach one clearly relevant document rather than several long reports, so the context stays focused on what matters for this consult

  • Always review your note before saving, particularly if the document and the consult discussion contain conflicting information
