MBS Billing Suggestions is a streamlined feature that appears after each patient consult, helping you quickly identify and copy eligible MBS item numbers for billing. Instead of manually reviewing what codes apply to the consultation you've just completed, a suggestion chip appears at the top of the consult view with all eligible items ready to copy to your practice management system.
How MBS Billing Suggestions works
When you finish a consult in Lyrebird, an MBS Suggestions chip automatically appears at the top of the consult view if billable items are eligible. Click the chip to open the suggestions modal and review all recommended codes.
What you'll see in the suggestions modal
The modal displays:
The attendance item (labelled clearly, e.g. "Standard Consultation – 20 mins")
All billable codes that apply to this consult, listed beneath
Three action buttons: Copy individually, Copy all, or Dismiss
💡 Tip: Use Copy all to select all eligible codes at once, then paste directly into your practice management system (PMS).
Next steps
After copying your codes:
Switch to your PMS
Paste the codes into the patient's billing record
Review and adjust as needed for your workflow
You can dismiss the suggestion chip at any time - it will not reappear for the same consult.
Availability and rollout
MBS Billing Suggestions is currently available to Australian GPs using Lyrebird. The feature is rolling out progressively; if you don't yet see the chip after a consult, it may reach your account in a coming update.
This feature works with all supported practice management systems and requires no additional setup.
