Getting started with Lyrebird

Welcome to your AI medical scribe where we securely and reliably write your notes and documents, so you can focus on your patients.

Congratulations and welcome to Lyrebird Health! This article is a comprehensive guide on how you can get the most out of Lyrebird, so you can focus on what matters; delivering care for your patients.

What is Lyrebird?

Lyrebird is an AI medical scribe that enhances efficiency and patient care by transcribing consultations into medical notes, documents, and assessments. You can create and customise your Lyrebird to match your documentation style and preferences. It integrates with leading Australian practice management systems and works on desktop, laptop, and mobile.

Lyrebird is used by GPs, specialists, and allied health professionals across Australia, the UK, and beyond.

Lyrebird's core features

Consult

Consult automates your paperwork. Lyrebird listens to your consultation in real time and generates your notes and documents the moment you press Stop. No typing, no dictating, just speak naturally with your patient and let Lyrebird write the note. To get started with your first consult, click here.

EMR integrations

Lyrebird integrates directly with Bp Premier, Gentu, Genie, and more, automatically inserting patient details and pushing completed notes into the patient file without copy-pasting.

Before your first consult: a quick checklist

  1. Create your account: Sign up at app.lyrebirdhealth.com/signup, and get started with your 14 day free trial.

  2. Connect your microphone: Lyrebird needs a clear audio feed. A dedicated external microphone gives the best results, however you can also use your inbuit microphone.

  3. Allow microphone access: When prompted by your browser, click Allow. Lyrebird cannot function without this permission.

  4. Choose your note template: Start with a default SOAP, Chief Complaint, or Multiple Complaints template, or customise your own.

  5. Obtain patient consent: You must have patient consent before recording a consultation.

  6. Run a test consult: Do a short practice run before using Lyrebird with a real patient. Speak naturally for 30–60 seconds and review the output.

Privacy and security

Lyrebird is built for healthcare, security is not an afterthought.

  • Audio is never stored. All transcription happens in real time on Australian servers. By the time your consult ends, the audio has already been transcribed and discarded. No audio is retained, sent offshore, or accessible by any third party.

  • LLM processing stays in Australia. All AI processing occurs on Microsoft Azure servers located in Sydney. Your data is never used to train AI models and is never stored or accessed by Azure.

  • Notes are encrypted at rest using 256-bit encryption and stored on Australian servers. By default, notes are deleted after 7 days. This can be adjusted to 24 hours or up to 6 months in your Settings.

Patient Consent

Patient consent is required before recording any consultation.

Lyrebird makes this easy:

  • Patient consent is required for all consults with a patient, We make this easy by providing a customisable printout that explains how Lyrebird keeps patient information secure. You can place in the reception of the clinic or in your room for patients to read and feel comfortable that their data is secure.

  • An example script you could use to obtain this consent is "Please confirm that you are comfortable with us taking an audio recording of your consultation for the purposes of preparing a note of the consultation, which is then reviewed and finalised and stored for inclusion in your medical record."

  • Lyrebird needs to listen to you, so a good microphone is key. We suggest this microphone if you need to buy a new one.
